BUDDHA IN PINK
A hand printed silkscreen of Buddha in glorious bright pink, taken from the huge Buddha statue overlooking the Thames at Battersea Park.
I wanted to take the familiar language of religious iconography and push it through Pop Art: bold colour, graphic simplicity, humour, peace and tranquillity.
It is both serious and silly. And that, for me, is the meditation within the piece.
Buddhism speaks about compassion, wisdom, mindfulness and finding peace within the chaos. Pop Art speaks through colour, repetition and the imagery that surrounds us. Put the two together and Buddha becomes bright pink, joyful and wonderfully surreal.
A piece about peace, humour and keeping a sense of perspective.
Hand printed silkscreen.
limited edition of 100.
